UI Design: A tangled dance with beauty and logic—Is it worth it?

What does “UI” stand for? ——User Interface.

Despite the cutthroat job market and the relentless advancement of AI, I have always believed that UI design is an incredibly fascinating profession.

Where exactly does its charm lie?

1. The miniature universe of icons
   Every time I refine an icon, especially complex 3D ones, from the initial sketch to lighting and shading, the final result brings not only visual pleasure but also a profound sense of accomplishment: "I did it."

2. Restoring simplicity to complexity
   When a product has usability issues and users or clients complain that it's "too difficult to use," sorting out navigation paths and streamlining processes to earn the feedback "This is so user-friendly" is more rewarding than any prize.

3. Immersive flow state
   When designing, I enter a world of my own, where only beauty and logic converse. If it weren't for the constant "negotiations" with product managers and the looming threat of being replaced by AI, I would happily do this job for a lifetime.

Back in 2018, naysayers were everywhere, but I still switched careers without hesitation. As a non-design graduate majoring in e-commerce, I followed my fascination, going from passion to a six-figure annual income, and now working as a freelancer. Looking back, I'm filled with emotion.

However, if you ask me whether newcomers should enter the field now, my advice is to exercise extreme caution.

• First, the impact of AI is real;
• Second, job hunting is extremely competitive;
• Third, it's a field that requires lifelong learning. Constant software updates and trend shifts force you to keep moving forward.

But if you're truly passionate—deeply, irresistibly passionate—then while you're young, go for it once you've made up your mind. The path is tough, but incredibly rewarding. Good luck🍀
